Abstract

Title: THE ROLE OF NURSING IN DONOR MANAGEMENT
Body: Nurses in Malaysia, whether they are in TOP team or Tissue and Procurement Teams, a donor or transplant coordinator, play an invaluable role in the organ donation or tissue donation ecosystem. Management of the possible donor requires teams from various specialities to join forces and coordinate in the same working frame. This is impossible without the presence of nurses. It is essential that both nurses and other healthcare team work together and support each other when there is a possible donor in their centre. This is to ensure a smooth coordination, successful donation and donor's family satisfaction. In order for this to happen, nurses need to expand their knowledge and think outside the box. Are the nurses aware their roles before, during and after organ or tissues donation? These are some of the questions that we as nurses need to ask ourselves before we meet with the donor and donor's family.
