Abstract

Title: Perioperative Care and Intraoperative Challenges in Liver Transplantation - The Anaesthetist Perspective
Body: Liver transplantation is a challenging surgery performed as a treatment of choice for end-stage liver disease or acute liver failure. The anaesthetic management can be complicated and challenging. A successful procedure requires strong teamwork and excellent understanding of the complex pathophysiology of liver failure and the effects on multi-systems. This lecture outlines the principles and aims in the perioperative period from preparatory stages to intraoperative care and postoperative management mainly for adult recipients. At the end, there will be an outline of potentially selecting suitable patients for fast-track transplant surgery.
